Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC) Receives Honours in 2016 HPCwire Readers' and Editors' Choice Awards
Annual HPCwire Awards Awarded to Leaders in the Global HPC Community
Salt Lake City, UT - November 14, 2016 - Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC) has been recognized in the annual HPCwire Readers' and Editors' Choice Awards, presented at the 2016 International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis (SC16), in Salt Lake City, Utah. The list of winners were revealed at the HPCwire booth at the event, and on the HPCwire website, located at www.HPCwire.com. WHPC was recognized with the following honour(s):
- Readers' Choice: Workforce Diversity Leadership Award
- Editors' Choice: Workforce Diversity Leadership Award
- Readers' Choice: Outstanding Leadership in HPC, for Toni Collis, Director or WHPC
The coveted annual HPCwire Readers' and Editors' Choice Awards are determined through a nomination and voting process with the global HPCwire community, as well as selections from the HPCwire editors. The awards are an annual feature of the publication and constitute prestigious recognition from the HPC community. These awards are revealed each year to kick off the annual supercomputing conference, which showcases high performance computing, networking, storage, and data analysis.
This is the second year that WHPC has been honoured to receive the Reader's Choice Workforce Diversity Leadership Award. "Receiving recognition from HPCwire's readers is wonderful as it highlights the impact we are having and the international recognition for our efforts," said Toni Collis, Director of WHPC, based at EPCC, The University of Edinburgh.
WHPC is supported by EPCC and the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) through the ARCHER Outreach programme. Dr Alan D Simpson, EPCC Technical Director and ARCHER CSE Service Director said, "EPCC has been fully committed to diversity throughout its 26-year history. The EPSRC grant associated with the ARCHER service has allowed us to take leadership in the diversity in HPC activity on a worldwide scale. I am delighted that this has been recognised in these HPCWire awards to the successful Women in HPC initiative and to Toni who has led this with such commitment.".

About Toni Collis
Toni Collis is the Director and co-Founder of WHPC and works as an Applications Consultant in HPC Research at EPCC. A Doctor of Philosophy in 2011 in Computational Physics, Toni specialises in HPC applications, performance optimisation and in particular numerical integration and multi-body simulations. As Director of WHPC Toni has been instrumental in setting the vision of WHPC, promoting discussions on the importance of improving diversity and providing women with opportunities to showcase their work, receive mentoring and networking opportunities, and leads research in the issues specific to the under-representation of women in HPC. Toni has also worked with a number of organisations and conferences to improve the representation of women and will be the Supercomputing (SC) conference Chair for Inclusivity in 2017.
